Taipei – MRT packed on rush hour
From the moment I landed in this vibrant city, Taipei beckoned as the perfect canvas for my first attempt at street photography.
But first thing is first – What is street photography?
By definition:
“Street photography, a genre of photography that records everyday life in a public place. The very publicness of the setting enables the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge. Street photographers do not necessarily have a social purpose in mind, but they prefer to isolate and capture moments which might otherwise go unnoticed.”

As I navigated through the maze of streets, Taipei revealed its multifaceted personality. From the modern Taipei 101 Skyscraper towering over historic temples, to the eclectic mix of street vendors selling steaming dumplings and exotic fruits at every corner. Stories unfolding in real-time— the crowded MRT full of people going to who knows where, the intense bargaining at a bustling night market stall, and the quiet phone call of a man on the outskirts of Ximending.
By shifting my gaze outward, I began to uncover moments waiting to be captured on Taipei’s bustling streets. Taking time to observe and immerse myself in the daily rhythms of life around me revealed beauty in the smallest details—the expressions of passersby lost in thought, and the subtle interactions between locals going about their day. These quiet observations not only enriched my photographic journey but also deepened my appreciation for the genuine moments that define the city’s vibrant character.
